What are the BESTie's Favorite Events?

The Business Executive Society of Tomorrow offers various events such as tours, workshops, and networking mixers - these aid students in developing skills that will help them succeed in the real business world. Socials and community service opportunities promote a close-knit environment between our members and the community.

This time, we had the opportunity to ask Sean, Lara, Jason, and Evan. These four BESTies shared more about their valuable experiences in the club, and how it contributed to their personal and professional growth.

Sean Kobayashi is currently a Sophomore majoring in Marketing and Finance. He was recruited into BEST during the Fall 2022 semester, making this his fourth semester. Sean served as the Director of Human Resources during the Fall 2023 semester and his favorite event was Professional Interaction Night.

Professional Interaction Night is BEST’s largest event where our members get the opportunity to connect with seasoned industry experts and professionals. This event features one-on-one interactions with professionals from various fields. It's a chance for our members to gain insights, seek career advice, and expand their professional network, ultimately setting them on the path to success in their chosen fields.

“My favorite event is Professional Interaction Night. I really like PIN because I am able to hone my networking skills in a low pressure environment, and ask the professionals about their career. PIN has helped me determine the majors that I would like to go into, as well as the company culture that I would like to be a part of.”

Lara Ho is also a sophomore majoring in Finance and Computer Science. She is currently studying abroad in Korea and was recruited into BEST during the Fall 2022 semester as well. Last Fall, Lara served as the Director of Corporate Relations and her favorite event was our 25th Anniversary.

BEST was founded in 1998 and since then, has maintained its culture, growth, and excellence. Every 5 years, BEST celebrates our anniversary with a banquet style event with current members and alumni. This past year, the theme was Hollywood Red Carpet Celebration and marked 25 strong years.

“My favorite BEST event since I’ve joined the club has been our 25th anniversary. I really enjoyed getting to meet BESTies across all generations in a very fun setting. We played games, bid on raffles, took lots and lots of pictures, and ate great food. It was an amazing night overall and a memory I’ll always cherish.”

- Lara Ho

Jason Cai is currently a Senior in his last semester at Shidler. He is majoring in Travel Industry Management and was recruited into BEST during the Fall 2023 semester, making this his second semester. Jason’s favorite event so far was the Humane Society Community Service. “There were many great events this past semester but one of my favorite ones was volunteering for the Humane Society at the Pet Walk.”

BEST’s commitment to community service goes beyond just academic and professional pursuits. We actively engage our members in various community service initiatives throughout the year. Whether it's organizing a beach cleanup, volunteering, or donating to a good cause, our members have the chance to make a positive impact on the community while fostering teamwork and empathy.

“This was one of my favorite events because not only was I able to bond with my fellow BESTies, but I was also able to give back to the community by volunteering. Additionally, there were many dogs at the event which is always a plus.”

- Jason Cai

Evan Liang is a sophomore majoring in Management Information Systems. He was recruited into BEST during the Spring 2023 semester making this his third semester in BEST. He is currently studying abroad in Hong Kong and his favorite BEST event was going to all the socials.

To balance out the professional development events, BEST also has a lot of social events to offer. Events such as our hiking social, karaoke social, and beach social, bring our members closer together and create long-lasting friendships and connections within our club.

“I like socials because it is more casual and allows us to get to know our fellow members better while doing some fun activities “
